Kim Johnston completed both a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Primary) at the University of Newcastle.
Kim has developed an extensive knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and the associated challenges for families. She has undertaken Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA) training and various workshops specific to strategies for children with ASD.
Kim enjoys using her knowledge of ASD combined with a behavioural perspective to improve the functioning of children within the home and school/preschool setting. She consults with teachers to identify goals, effective strategies and resources for the classroom and playground. Parent consults may focus on routine, sleep, toilet training, use of visuals and other resources, behaviour management plans, communication, and parental well-being.
Kim works closely with the EDUCARE team of Occupational Therapists, Speech Pathologists, Psychologists and Psychiatrists when developing home and school plans for her clients. Emphasis is placed upon communication between clinicians and ensuring families feel their varying needs are met.
Kim is passionate about parenting, harmony within the home, building upon childrens’ individual strengths, and helping children make the most of their learning and social time.
She is pleased to offer support to families in their home and school environments as well as within the clinic.
