Aimee Blacker graduated from the University of Newcastle in 2014 with specialization in OT Paediatrics. Aimee is a warm and engaging therapist who readily builds strong rapport with the children and their respective parents.
One unique and key area of specialization that Aimee has developed is to utilize the natural environment as a therapeutic tool, particularly the ocean. With a focus on the outdoors, it allows children to develop their gross motor skills in unique and creative ways. It also brings about a special awareness of themselves and the environment that enhances their growth and development. Aimee is the Co-Founder of Surfing the Spectrum and integrates this program into her therapy program for children at EDUCARE if and when desired.
Importantly, Aimee works with families to implement evidence-based interventions within a Sensory Integration framework. This approach highlights how we live and breathe through our senses. Aimee’s focus is to develop a child’s ability to appropriately register, modulate, discriminate and integrate sensory information to support the development of sensorimotor skills, emotional regulation, social skills, play skills, fine and gross motor skills.
She has experience working with children and teenagers with diagnoses including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD)/Dyspraxia, Dyslexia, Intellectual Disabilities, Vision Impairments and Blindness, Sensory Processing difficulties, Anxiety, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) -Trauma, and general developmental and learning difficulties.
