Saskia attained her degree at the University of Newcastle and has been a member of the Australian Psychological Society for more than 20 years. Her clinical experience has included working across the lifespan in a variety of roles. She has worked in public and private practice in areas of generalist psychology, child and family, traumatic brain injury rehabilitation, occupational rehabilitation, sexual assault, chronic health conditions and trauma.

Saskia enjoys working with children and their families in a systemic way to treat a range of issues presenting in the early years. Worries, big feelings like anger, sadness, grief and frustration, sibling rivalry, arguments, out of control reactions and conflict, for example, are part of the human experience that can cause a lot of distress to children, young people and their families. Saskia employs a range of therapeutic strategies to help her clients to negotiate these developmental tasks and reduce unhelpful coping mechanisms and increase healthy coping and adjustment.

Saskia has an understanding of the impact of trauma in its many forms. She has significant training and experience in treating the psychological conditions that may result from adverse experiences.

She has an eclectic approach to treatment with a firm belief in tailoring treatment to the individual. This begins with gaining a thorough understanding of the individual and their family context and the development of a treatment plan based on this understanding. Modalities of treatment favoured by Saskia include cognitive behavioural therapy, narrative therapy, motivational interviewing, radical exposure tapping, trauma focused therapy and brief solution focussed therapy. She is currently developing skills in family therapy.

Saskia has experience in cognitive assessments, learning ability assessments, clinical assessment of emotional and behavioural difficulties, assessment of trauma and dissociation, and systemic family assessment. She adopts an individualised assessment process that is dependent on the client’s needs and with a view to providing tailored recommendations and a consistent approach to assist across the range of her clients’ environments.
